My new series titled: Atacama, is inspired by my recent (2016) trip along with my husband Ricardo Guajardo, to archeological sites especially rich in rock art, in the Atacama Desert, in northern Chile. This recent series -still in progress- is being inspired as well by the music of two young Chilean composers: René Silva and Carlos Zamora.
In “Atacama series” I am working consciously inspired by the geography, and environment of this Desert, and its extraordinary rock art images. Even this, I still preserve the pleasure of actively integrating the music that gives me the direction for my own pictorial composition.
When the recognized Chilean journalist and lecturer Alvaro Gallegos visited me during my 2016 exhibit My Ancient Land at 3rd Street Gallery, Philadelphia, I asked him –almost as a joke! - for any Chilean composer specifically inspired by The Atacama Desert. It was a big surprise for me, when he informed me about these two composers whose music – in a very happy coincidence- has been inspired by northern Chile and his extraordinary desert and it magic places.
